Two days after releasing Phineas' ashes in the mountains of Colorado, I flew to Illinois to tell my 101-year-old grandmother that I love her before she passed away. On the way out of her hospice room, my dad let me know that he is watching over her, waiting to receive her with true love into a place where “there ain’t nobody feelin’ no pain." How? The day before leaving Colorado, a band at his favorite live music venue unexpectedly played one of his favorite songs - which is also about his favorite musicians and one of his favorite places in the world - called "Luckenbach, Texas - Back to the Basics of Love." The song stopped me in my tracks and felt like a thank you gift for setting him free in the Valley of Spiritual Growth. Then, when leaving his mom's hospice room after seeing her for the very last time, the same song was playing in a dark and empty dining room right outside her door! It was a beautiful sign of Phineas Magic. Music has always provided both great joy and much-needed healing for both of us, individually. During a difficult time for our family, hearing his song there again gave me instant peace ... "Maybe it's time we got back to the basics of love." Message received, Phineas, thank you.
Words can't express my appreciation to the team at Hard Rock Rockford for recognizing my grandmother as the "One Millionth Guest" at their temporary location. Not only did we celebrated her 100th and 101st birthdays there, they also crowned her "Queen Antionette" and promised she could be the first to walk through the door at the new permanent casino when it opens Labor Day weekend! At 101 years old, providing her with something so special to look forward to is the best gift a granddaughter could ask for ... Thank you, Hard Rock Casino, for making her royalty and for providing us with so much joy.
This video says it all! The upcoming grand opening of the permanent casino in Rockford gave "Queen Antoinette" pure joy during the final year of her life. At 101 years young, her excitement touched the hearts of all who love her.
"Hard Rock Casino Rockford is saddened to learn an honorary member of our band passed away. Rockford centenarian, Antoinette Lamia, a lover of life, laughter and the one-millionth visitor to our temporary casino location, embodied the Hard Rock spirit. She lived life in the moment, celebrating her 101st birthday at the casino last fall. Our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family and friends. She will forever be our Queen of Hearts."
